The Ragged Edge - Anne Herbert
6.16.17 - 7.3.17 Opening 6.16.17 from 5-8pm ARTIST BIO Anne Herbert lives and works in Birmingham, AL. where she is an instructor in the Visual Arts Department at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Anne received her MFA from the University of Alabama in 2013. She exhibits regularly, most recently at the University of Mobile, the Wiregrass Museum of Art, and later this summer at Lowe Mill in Huntsville, AL. ARTIST STATEMENT In racing, the ragged edge refers to the moment when your wheels are just between keeping control and losing traction. In my painting practice, I try and bring the work to an edge too, where there is a balance of opposition between the controlled hand and the behavior of the materials. Existing in this liminal way, the work retains an openness and refers to the rhythmic and unfolding nature of experience. |
A Gathering of Small Works
We asked local artists and friends to bring small works from their collections made by other artists to be installed around our mantel.
